Fernanda Carrillo on the work

The Twin pairs a white earthenware bowl with natural bindweed handles, bringing the permanence of fired clay together with the irregularity and delicacy of a gathered plant material. The contrast gives the piece a balance between structure and softness, with the handles becoming an integral part of its sculptural form.

The process is intentionally legible. Evidence of hand-making and the individual qualities of each material are retained rather than refined away, allowing the relationship between ceramic and fibre to remain central to the finished object. In this way, material, craftsmanship and form become inseparable.
