Fernanda Carrilo on the work

The Origin brings together the solidity of terracotta with the natural texture of cabuya fibre, allowing the contrast between ceramic and woven material to become part of the character of the piece. The cabuya handles extend the vessel beyond its ceramic form, bringing two distinct craft processes into conversation.

The making remains deliberately visible in the finished work. Rather than concealing the hand of the maker, the variations in material, surface and construction allow craftsmanship to become part of how the object is experienced. Concept, material and process are therefore read together, giving the vessel a distinctly tactile presence.
