Darren Appiagyei on the work

Each piece begins with reading. The wood arrives with its own biography- splintering, knots, grain shifts, the marks of growth and time. The work begins before any burning: searching for where tone changes, where the wood’s own language feels most alive.

The burning follows these transitions. Fire traces what the wood has already written, intensifying boundaries and revealing patterns that were always there, waiting to be seen.
