Rachel Peters on the work

Abandon explores what it means to let go and simply be. The sculpture reflects Rachel’s ongoing interest in creating forms that embody presence, emotional balance, and the search for wholeness. Rather than illustrating a specific narrative, it captures a state of being, one of openness, trust, and acceptance. I hand-build each sculpture through coiling in grogged stoneware, allowing the form to develop intuitively through a process of making, refining, and responding to the clay. The surface is left unglazed, preserving the natural texture and honesty of the material.

Material is integral to the character of the piece, with Rokk Grey Stoneware Clay contributing directly to its form, surface and tactile quality. The making process remains visible in the finished work, allowing craftsmanship to become part of the way the piece is experienced rather than something hidden behind it.
