Dionne Ible on the work

This abstract mosaic celebrates individuality and community through material, colour and texture. Inspired by the diversity of African cultures, landscapes and textiles, each section of the composition is formed from a distinct combination of materials, reflecting the idea that every person is unique while still contributing to a greater whole.

Drawing on an African-inspired mosaic practice, the work brings together bold and muted tones with an eclectic mix of stained glass, slate, travertine, beads, recycled jewellery, cowrie shells and Swarovski crystals.

Material is central to the character of the piece. Each element contributes its own surface, texture and variation, allowing the natural qualities of the materials to remain visible. Together, they create a richly layered composition in which contrast, individuality and connection sit side by side.
