The Marchmont Workshop on the work
Our Ledbury Design is the quintessential rush-seated chair, designed by Ernest Gimson during the Arts and Crafts movement, and made in our workshop today using patterns and techniques passed down through 6 generations of Master and Apprentice.
Every chair is made by hand, starting right from the very first principles of woodworking. We fell and mill all our own timber, and do all the turning, steam-bending, shaping and assembly in our workshop in the Scottish Borders. Each chair has a seat woven from hand-twisted common river rush that we harvest ourselves.
