WAY Studio on the work

GROUND Dining Chair extends the GROUND Collection from afternoon and evening relaxing into the daily ritual of dining. While the lounge chair and stool explore lower, more grounded ways of sitting, this piece introduces a higher seating position for an upright posture, responding to how people gather and move around the table.

The work continues my interest in creating safer and quieter domestic environments through material design. Made from granulated and expanded cork bound with natural latex, the chair has a flexible cork-latex body that gives movement when seated and reduces the noise usually created when furniture is moved or pulled out during dining.

The piece represents my practice through its focus on the honest use of material in furniture design and on everyday ritual. Rather than hiding structure beneath upholstery, the material itself forms both the surface and the structure, providing flexibility for movement, and the sculpted surface defines the identity of each edition.
