Dan Collister on the work

The Martindale chair is made using an extremely strong joint system where the wedged front/ back rail tenons go right through the side rail tenons, locking all the joinery in place and making it impossible for it to come apart. The seat slats and backrest are steam bent, then carefully shaped and smoothed using hand tools. The angle and curve of the backrest have been carefully considered for maximum comfort and lower back support.

My aim was to design a chair that was lightweight, bombproof and would hold its own in a room full of mid-century classics.
