Eleanor Nadimi on the work

These lamps are part of a new collection exploring my interest in functional objects that are also beautiful in their own right. I have always been interested in how colour, pattern and surface can change the feeling of a room, and this collection brings those ideas into an object that is such a familiar part of everyday home life: the lamp.

I hand-finish each lamp base in my London studio using straw marquetry, cutting and applying every piece individually. It is a meticulous and time-consuming process where precision is key, as each section has to fit together almost like a jigsaw.

As the straw builds across the base, it completely transforms the surface, creating a tactile, lustrous finish that responds beautifully to light. The repetitive, methodical nature of the process is something I find incredibly satisfying.

Each pattern takes a different approach to the surface, using colour, repetition and composition to give each lamp its own character.
