Zoë Wilson on the work

Hold explores the relationship between geometry, light and stillness. Hand-carved from British Portland stone using only a mallet and chisel, it is the result of thousands of individual chisel strikes, each one contributing to the final form. As light moves across the surface, the carved rings appear to shift and expand, inviting the viewer to slow down and look more closely.

My practice is rooted in traditional stone carving, but I use those centuries-old techniques to create contemporary geometric sculpture. I am fascinated by the precision of mathematical forms and the warmth of a material shaped entirely by hand. Through this balance of order, craftsmanship and natural stone, I aim to create work that offers a quiet moment of contemplation and connection.
